For a race that often attracts a big field, well-fancied runners have a good record in the Super Sprint. Six of the last ten winners were single-figure prices and four were either outright favourites or joint market leaders.

Maria Branwell bids to become another winning favourite following her third behind Dramatised in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot. She was two places ahead of Miami Girl that day off level weights, but receives 6lb from that rival here due to the race conditions.

That's because the weights are determined by sales price and not official ratings. Miami Girl was a more costly purchase as a yearling and therefore races off 9st 3lb, with only Once More For Luck carrying more.

Purely on weights and measures, there is no way Miami Girl should reverse the Ascot places. However, we are dealing with unexposed juveniles who are at different stages of their development, so who knows what progress Maria Branwell has made since.

We do know that Miami Girl has improved. She bounced out ten days after her Queen Mary fifth to land a conditions race at Windsor and record a Racing Post Rating of 96, a rating 3lb higher than she achieved at Ascot.

Miami Girl represents Richard Hannon and her stablemate, Swift Asset, renews rivalry with Safari Dream.

Swift Asset had Safari Dream two and a quarter lengths behind in third when successful at Windsor last month off level weights, but Safari Dream has a 3lb pull on these terms.

RPRs suggest Swift Asset should confirm the form, but Windsor is a sharp track and Safari Dream might be better suited by this more galloping venue.

Seven of the last nine winners have been trained by a man named Richard. Hannon has won four, but Richard Fahey has three and saddles Dare To Hope and Claretina.

Oisin Orr rides Dare To Hope and appears to have quickly ascended to the role of number one rider for the Malton trainer. He is down to his lowest riding weight in the last year to partner the son of Camacho, who had Windsor Castle runner-up and subsequent Listed winner Rocket Rodney behind when winning on his debut at Nottingham.

He has been beaten at odds-on since though, and Orr wouldn't have been able to make the weight for Fahey's other runner Claretina.

She will be partnered by veteran lightweight jockey Jimmy Quinn, who was back in the limelight when winning on Lethal Levi at Newmarket's July meeting last week and bids for another big-race win.

Confidence behind Union Court

Getting in off a low weight has often proved the key to Weatherbys Super Sprint Stakes success, and Union Court, who carries just 8st 6lb, carries plenty of stable confidence.

Trainer Ed Walker said: "She's an exciting prospect off just 8st 6lb, having run a massive race in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot.

"She gets a bit impatient in the stalls and bobbed at the wrong time and missed the break there, yet she made up the ground and was going so well midway through that Richard Kingscote thought she had a squeak."

Union Court, who had previously landed minor events at Leicester and Chepstow, has reportedly come out of Royal Ascot in great shape.

"She worked very well last Saturday and is fresh after a good break since Ascot," Walker said. "Although Union Court will end up staying six furlongs, she has the speed for this quick five provided she breaks well."

What they say

Richard Hannon snr, father of Richard Hannon, trainer of Miami Girl, Swift Asset, Armour Propre, Galore and Land Of Summer
Miami Girl and Swift Asset carry the same weight, and although Miami Girl is a good filly, I prefer Swift Asset – he's a quick horse. We ran him first time over six furlongs at Windsor where he didn't quite get home, but he hacked up when we dropped him back to five a week later. It's not easy now to find horses and then get them in at the right weight. That's why I think Land Of Summer, right at the bottom, is not without a chance.

Tom Palin, director of Middleham Park Racing, owners of Eddie's Boy
It's a race we've had in mind for him all year. He had to earn the right to go for it and he's done so admirably. He's a very fast horse. His run in the Windsor Castle was pretty good, and Hollie [Doyle] felt he'd have finished second in the Dragon Stakes at Sandown if he hadn't suffered interference on the rail. There are four or five who go there with good chances and Eddie's Boy is one of them. He's entered in the Nunthorpe, but unless he wins the Super Sprint by a street we'll take him out at the next forfeit stage.

Rod Millman, trainer of Safari Dream and Woolhampton
If we hadn't won the Super Sprint with Lord Kintyre in 1997 we might not have been in business during the next three years. For a small stable a win in that race can prove life-changing. I don't think Safari Dream will finish far behind Swift Asset, and I see that Richard Hannon snr fancies that one. Safari Dream is a nice, big, strong horse. He's well drawn, and I'm hopeful of winning some prize-money with him. Woolhampton is a nice filly, and well worth her chance in the race.

David O’Meara, trainer of Maria Branwell and Not For Profit
Maria Branwell won her first race at Thirsk very nicely, and then went on to win the National Stakes at Sandown. It was a very good run from her in the Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot, and I’m very hopeful. Not For Profit won well at Hamilton and has improved a lot physically.
