'She has a chance on her last run' - Jimmy Frost hoping to provide daughter Bryony a winner with Asian Spice

Brendas Asking occupied the position of favourite in the early market and is a sensible starting point as the only last-time-out winner in the field of eight.

Kim Bailey’s team have had a good autumn and are 9-33 since the start of September. Brendas Asking’s contribution came over two miles at Ludlow last month, a win for which she’s been handed a 7lb rise by the handicapper. It wasn’t a faultless round of jumping, including a noteworthy mistake and stumble at the last, and she may have been value for more than the winning margin.

Harry Fry’s team have been a little slower to emerge, but the trainer generally does well with his runners at the Devon track and there’s been plenty of encouragement in Miss Goldfire's last two hurdles outings.

She weakened late into fifth over a longer trip at Worcester last time and this distance may be more suitable, while the form of that contest has worked out well with the second (twice) and third winning since.

A chief danger may be Asian Spice, who will no doubt be popular with Bryony Frost back on board. She won twice at the course last autumn and is 8lb above her last winning mark, but she made an encouraging return over course and distance last month in a race that was run slowly. Given she was held up off the pace, it wasn’t run to suit and she may be better than that. There should be more pace on here with Brendas Asking, Micronormous and Versace Twentyone.

What they say

Andrew Martin, trainer of Midnight Ginger
You can put a line through her last run but she’s back in good form at home and there’s no reason why she can’t place. She has top weight but James Martin takes off a handy 5lb, which is a big help.

Kim Bailey, trainer of Brendas Asking
She was a good winner first time out at Ludlow and seems to have come out of that in good shape. She’s a good-ground horse so this dry spell has suited her well.

Evan Williams, trainer of It’s Easy
She ran very, very well to be second first time up, and for the prize-money on offer I thought this looked worth a punt. She enjoys good ground and goes there with a good shout.

Jimmy Frost, trainer of Asian Spice
It would be nice to give Bryony a winner and she would have a chance on her last run over course and distance. These challenger series races want supporting as they put on great prize-money and it’s only down the road for us.
