'It's great to have a runner for Coolmore' - James Fanshawe sends out first runner for top operation at Newcastle

Punting pointers from some of Tuesday's race meetings . . .

Brighton: top course jockey

No jockey has ridden more winners at Brighton this season than Jack Doughty and the apprentice has four rides to build on his tally of seven winners.

He occupies third spot in the apprentice championship with a total of 27 winners, but a return to Brighton, where he has had more winners than anywhere else in the country, could boost his chances.

All four rides come for Tony Carroll, who is the track's winningmost trainer in 2024, and Interestnpenalties looks the pick in the mile handicap (4.20), having finished second on his last three starts.

Two-time course winner Long Call is another leading fancy for Doughty in the 1m2f handicap (3.20), while he also rides You Are Everything (2.20) and Poetic Force (4.50).

Brighton: in-form apprentice

Kaiya Fraser is operating at a 29 per cent strike-rate (5-17) in the last two weeks before Kempton's evening fixture on Monday. He rides Realised for his boss Harry Eustace in the apprentice handicap (2.20).

Newcastle: Coolmore first for Fanshawe

The fillies' novice at Newcastle might fly under the radar for many, but it is an important race for James Fanshawe as the trainer sends out his first runner in the famous Coolmore silks.

Fanshawe gives a debut to Pageant, a daughter of Wootton Bassett, in the 6f contest (6.30) against a field full of rivals with previous experience, headed by last month's Carlisle debut winner Magic Basma.

"It's great to have a runner for Coolmore," Fanshawe said. "Audarya was a good advertisement for Wootton Bassett just after Coolmore had bought him and I was given the chance to train one of his progeny off the back of her success.

"She's nicely bred, being by Wootton Bassett out of a War Front mare, and she has been going nicely in her homework, but it's her first run. We're starting over six, but I'd imagine she'll stay seven."

Coolmore are also represented on the card by the Roger Varian-trained Trident, a three-year-old son of No Nay Never who makes his debut in the 7f maiden (7.30).

Punchestown: Moore makes debut

After a busy Irish Champions Festival, Ryan Moore heads to Punchestown for his first rides at the track.

Moore has two rides for Aidan O'Brien, starting with Mint Candy in the 7f fillies' maiden (1.55). The Dubawi filly could well get the jockey off to the perfect start at the County Kildare venue, as she looked a winner in waiting when losing out by only a nose two weeks ago at Gowran Park.

Moore's second ride is Genealogy in the mile maiden (2.25) and the 400,000gns colt was also second last time, having chased home long odds-on stablemate Acapulco Bay at the Curragh on his debut.

Redcar: positive outlook for Bright hat-trick bid

In-form trainer Mark Loughnane has chosen the 6f handicap (3.13) at Redcar from a range of options for Bright's hat-trick bid as the race "fits the bill".

The four-year-old will be looking to follow up victories at Doncaster and Newcastle for a trainer who had three winners from six runners before Kempton's evening meeting on Monday.

"He won one of the Racing League races and the form is working out very well," said Loughnane. "He's in good form and will appreciate the flat track. I had him entered at three or four different places this week and it fits the bill to go here."

Bright was a non-runner at Newbury this month due to the ground, but conditions at Redcar should be ideal.

The Worcestershire-based trainer added: "The ground is key to him as he wants it good to firm. It's a four-and-a-half hour drive for us, so hopefully it's worth it."

Redcar: trainer to follow

Paul Midgley has saddled three winners from eight runners (38 per cent strike-rate) at Redcar this year, for a £1 level-stakes profit of £24. He has three chances of extending that record with Novello Lad (3.13), Leodis Dream (3.43) and Majeski Man (4.13).
