Richard Fahey bids for more success in Catterick feature while in-form jumps yard sends one to Stratford - punting pointers for Saturday

Punting pointers from some of today's race meetings . . .

Catterick: Fahey hoping to uncork Vintage again in Dash

Richard Fahey has won or had a placed runner in four of his five attempts to land the William Hill Catterick Dash Handicap (4.45) in the last ten years and looks to Vintage Clarets to repeat his heroics from 12 months ago.

The five-year-old finished second to Chipstead in this contest in 2022 but went one better last year when seeing off the reopposing Glorious Angel by a short head.

While last year's runner-up is 4lb higher now, Vintage Clarets is 1lb below that winning mark and arrives in good form, having followed a win at Chester last month with a good second at Ascot two weeks ago.

He has twice run to a Racing Post Rating high of 103, in this race last year and when beaten a neck by a subsequent Listed winner in May off 2lb higher, and his trainer has clearly had this race in mind for him all season.

Catterick stat: Dream runner for super Seb

Seb Spencer has a 57 per cent strike-rate at Catterick this season with four winners from seven runners. His sole runner is Desert Dream, who bids for his fourth course-and-distance success in the 7f handicap (4.05).

Leopardstown: half-sister to City Of Troy among O'Brien runners

Aidan O'Brien has trained more than twice the number of winners at Leopardstown this season as any other trainer and has a host of chances on the seven-race card – but it is the 7f fillies' maiden (4.10) that could be the most intriguing.

O'Brien's three runners include interesting newcomer Takemetothemoon, a half-sister to the stable's superstar City Of Troy. She is by Uncle Mo, emphatic winner of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile in 2010, and out of Fillies' Mile winner Together Forever.

The other Ballydoyle runners in the race are Guarded, a debutante daughter of Frankel, and the once-raced Mariinsky Theatre, a sister to Group 1-placed Never Ending Story.

O'Brien has leading contenders in the two Group 3 races.

Exactly, third in the Prix Marcel Boussac last time, could provide a boost for stablemate and next year's 1,000 Guineas favourite Lake Victoria in the Killavullan Stakes (4.40), while Beresford Stakes fourth Trinity College sets the standard in the Eyrefield Stakes (3.40).

Limerick: Jacob tries again on Mr Percy after mishap on hurdling debut

Daryl Jacob heads over the Irish Sea for just his second ride in Ireland this season to partner Mr Percy again in the opening 2m½f maiden hurdle (1.35).

Running in the double green of owners Simon Munir and Isaac Souede, the four-year-old has had three starts on the Flat since joining Joseph O'Brien. He followed seconds at Ballinrobe and Galway with a seven-length victory over 150-rated hurdler Winter Fog at Gowran last month.

Off the back of that success he was 2-5 favourite to make a seamless transition to hurdling at Gowran two weeks ago but didn't make it past the first. He slowed down dramatically approaching the hurdle and jinked to his left, unseating Jacob.

The rider said: "We're looking forward to running him again. Things didn't work out last time.

"We really like him. I schooled him at Joseph's on Friday and he seems in great shape. He was a smart horse on the Flat and won nicely on his last start."

Stratford: Curtis bids to sail on in good form with River Voyage

Rebecca Curtis continued her good form last weekend with winners at Chepstow and Ffos Las, taking her strike-rate in the past fortnight to 33 per cent (3-9).

The Pembrokeshire trainer has two wins from three runners in handicap chases at Stratford this season and bids to enhance that record with River Voyage, her sole runner on the card, in the 2m6½f handicap chase (5.20).

The six-year-old was well beaten on all five hurdles starts, but he won an Irish point-to-point by eight lengths before joining Curtis and could prove a different proposition now he tackles fences.

Curtis said: "Stratford can be a bit trappy for a first time over fences but he jumps away at home. Like a lot of ours he'll improve for the fences and the horses are running well, so hopefully he can run nicely."

Stratford stat: fit for a King

Alan King has struck with two of his three runners (67 per cent strike-rate) in handicap hurdles at the track this season. He attempts to enhance that record with Ezmerellda in the 2m2½f handicap hurdle (4.50).

Wolverhampton: Faulkner looking for more success with course regulars

Tom Faulkner has saddled three winners since taking over the licence from his mother Deborah, with each success coming at this track at a strike-rate of 38 per cent (3-8).

Course-and-distance scorer Baileys Warrior became Faulkner's first winner with a licence last month and bids to go one place better than when runner-up here off this mark on Monday in the 2m½f handicap (4.27).

Faulkner also saddles King's Gem, who looks well handicapped on his old form and should benefit from last month's return from 284 days off the track when lining up in the 6f handicap (7.30). His final runner is Renoir, who attempts to back up his course-and-distance win two weeks ago in the 1m4f handicap (8.30).
