One trainer, one jockey, one horse and one race to watch on Saturday
Trainer
Paul Nicholls has his horses fit and firing on all cylinders this month, as evidenced by his team's November tally of 21 winners before the beginning of racing on Friday.
A haul like that is some achievement from the first 12 days of the month and 11-time champion jumps trainer Nicholls looks like a man on a mission to reclaim his crown this season.
Saint Sonnet is his golden chance at Cheltenham on Saturday in the Paddy Power Gold Cup (2.15), a race Nicholls has won twice with Al Ferof (2012) and Caid Du Berlais (2014).
Brelan D'As, second last year and the ride of Jonjo O'Neill Jr this time around, is not a bad second string for the first big handicap of the season, while Hell Red (12.30) and Quel Destin (1.40) offer other reasonable chances for the stable's momentum to continue through Cheltenham's November meeting.
The Ditcheat trainer also has couple of chances at Uttoxeter with Lucky One (11.52) and Roque It (12.22).
Jockey
Robbie Power opted to relocate to Britain last month due to Covid-19 restrictions and could be set for a rewarding afternoon with four rides at Cheltenham.
Power's main backer Colin Tizzard has his horses hitting a bit of form and the partnership team up twice on the card, including with Slate House in the Paddy Power Gold Cup (2.15).
The eight-year-old appeared to have plenty of running left when capsizing late in this contest last year and is an interesting contender, while Tizzard also trains Power's Grade 2 novice chase contender Eldorado Allen (1.40), a winner at Newton Abbot last time.
Power teamed up with Gordon Elliott to ride Tiger Roll on the opening day of the November meeting and the combination that landed the 2007 Grand National with Silver Birch combine again with the unbeaten Duffle Coat (12.30) in the Grade 2 Triumph Trial.
The 38-year-old also rides Mrs Milner for Paul Nolan in the Listed Paddy Power Games Handicap Hurdle (2.50).
Horse
Simply The Betts was last seen winning the Brown Advisory & Merriebelle Stable Plate at the Cheltenham Festival and should he complete a hat-trick of wins at the famous Gloucestershire course, the Paddy Power Gold Cup (2.15) could be his last run in handicap company for a while.
Harry Whittington described Simply The Betts as "fresh and incredibly well" on Wednesday and the seven-year-old, who progressed rapidly as a novice chaser last season, could simply prove better than a handicapper in the competitive £130,000 race.
Race
A shake-up in the ante-post market for the Arkle Chase appears certain as two contests will shine a light on the talents of some potential festival contenders.
The Grade 2 November Novices' Chase at Cheltenham (1.40) starring Fusil Raffles, Eldorado Allen and Quel Destin will likely cause a ripple in the Arkle betting, but another Grade 2 at Punchestown earlier in the afternoon could have stronger long-term implications.
The Mongey Communications Novice Chase (12.15) features Felix Desjy, a Grade 1-winning novice hurdler, and last season's Champion Hurdle third Darver Star.
Both Felix Desjy and Darver Star made a winning start over fences last month at Killarney and Punchestown respectively, but Grade 3 winners Benruben and Sizing Pottsie cannot be discounted in a competitive heat.
