One key runner for each of the five ITV races at Doncaster on Friday
1.40 Doncaster
bet365 Mallard Handicap, 1m6½f
Calculation put in a great effort when finishing second to Seinesational at Sandown last month, and the form has been given a boost with the winner winning again at Goodwood.
The Sir Michael Stoute-trained four-year-old has also won over course and distance, beating Rochester House in June 2019. With regular partner Ryan Moore in Ireland, William Buick takes the ride.
Ghalyoon
2.10 Doncaster
bet365 Handicap, 6½f
This lightly raced five-year-old returned from a break of more than a year to finish second at this course last time, and that may have put him spot on for trainer Marcus Tregoning and in-form jockey Jim Crowley.
Ghalyoon finished second to Falmouth winner Nazeef in a maiden last year and this consistent performer, who has finished in the first two on his last three starts, could well be ahead of his mark of 88.
2.40 Doncaster
Bombardier Flying Childers Stakes (Group 2), 5f
Steel Bull was a superb winner of the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes at Glorious Goodwood this season when he stayed on powerfully to fend off the challenge of Ben Macdui to win under Colin Keane.
He could only manage seventh in the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes next time but the son of Clodovil encountered trouble at the start. The booking of Jim Crowley gives him every chance of bouncing back at Doncaster.
Revolver
3.15 Doncaster
bet365 Doncaster Cup Stakes (Group 2), 2m2f
This Sir Mark Prescott-trained three-year-old has won all six of his starts this season to fly up the handicap by 41lb to a mark of 98.
He steps markedly up in class to try to deliver his trainer a first Group success in three years and follows the route taken by the yard's Alleluia, who won five handicaps before landing this race.
With Stradivarius absent this is a wide-open contest and Revolver cannot be discounted on what he has shown this season.
3.45 Doncaster
bet365 Flying Scotsman Stakes (Listed), 7f
This superbly bred colt put in a fine performance to get off the mark at the second attempt last time and the way in which he finished that day suggests he has a fine chance of scoring again for trainer Charlie Appleby.
The race has been a useful staging post for future Group performers, including Sangarius and last year's winner Molatham, who won the Group 3 Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot in June for Roger Varian.
