While Paul Nicholls has dominated the King George in a manner reminiscent of Aidan O'Brien with certain Group races in Ireland, that alone is less remarkable than the fact Nicholls has built up his dominance over a quarter of a century with just four horses.
The specialist nature of the King George goes deeper than Nicholls' record. There have been 69 runnings of the race since 1937, but only 48 winning horses. That amounts to 15 multiple winners, of whom Clan Des Obeaux is the most recent.
