There have only been 75 days between this year's Lockinge and the Qatar Sussex Stakes. Had you been told after Newbury that Lockinge hero Palace Pier would not be running at Goodwood, you would have wondered what sorry excuse for a Group 1 was going to play out here. Luckily the intervening ten weeks have provided a more-than-adequate restock of potential new stars.
Poetic Flare won the 2,000 Guineas a fortnight before the Lockinge, although received wisdom at the time had him down as no better than an average winner. It remains true that his Guineas form is shy of vintage standard for a Classic.
