The official announcement that the Betway Grand Sefton Handicap Chase would move from its old spot on Becher Chase day in early December to this slot four weeks early only came in August. By that time plans for horses, if not put into action, would certainly have been formulated.

This means that in some senses this race can be treated as the final December Grand Sefton. Come 2022 and beyond, expect more prep runs, more summer horses and, if we are really lucky, a de facto win-and-you're-in link with the following Saturday's Paddy Power Gold Cup.
