It is such a rare feat that Enable attempts at Ascot (and hopefully again at Longchamp in October) that there is very little meaningful statistical evidence to go on when it comes to top-class mares that have raced on at six.

However, within the last decade and a half France has produced two such horses in Goldikova and Pride. In light of John Gosden's emphasis on how Enable's body has required more conditioning this year, how did his two French counterparts approach the job when their stars embarked on a final season in training?

Like Enable, Goldikova had history in her sights as 2011 progressed with a scarcely believable fourth Breeders' Cup Mile the main aim.
