Royal Ascot Wednesday: ITV Racing tips
Our Spotlight experts select their best bets for day two of Royal Ascot
2.30 Ascot
Queen Mary Stakes, Group 2, 5f, ITV
The two-year-old sprint for fillies opens the card on Wednesday, with American-trained fancy Twilight Gleaming leading the charge for Wesley Ward. Aidan O'Brien has still not won this race and will be looking to change things as he sends out Yet, who won over the distance in her maiden and is fitted with a tongue-tie for the first time.
SPOTLIGHT TIP: YET
Made striking impression when winning at Dundalk; imposing type; strong candidate
Royal Ascot tips: five horses to back on day two of the royal meeting
Queen's Vase, Group 2, 1m6f, ITV
Aidan O'Brien has won three of the last six runnings of this race and fields three runners including well-fancied Wordsworth, who only just lost out in his last race to another classy O'Brien horse with an Ascot entry on Friday. Stowell will pose a challenge from the Gosden camp after winning his maiden at this course last month, while first-time blinkers could make a difference on Taipan as he steps up in trip for Jessica Harrington.
SPOTLIGHT TIP: TAIPAN
This extra 4f may well give him the opportunity to show what he is capable of; blinkers on
Royal Ascot day two tips: Paul Kealy's banker
Duke of Cambridge Stakes, Group 2, 1m, ITV
Lady Bowthorpe holds leading claims after chasing home Palace Pier in the Lockinge Stakes, while she won over this course and distance in a Group 3 last year. The five-year-old is trainer William Jarvis's only Royal Ascot runner and he will be hoping the mare can hold off Queen Power, an easy winner of the Middleton Fillies' Stakes at York last month.
SPOTLIGHT TIP: VALERIA MESSALINA
Testing ground against her on reappearance; enters calculations on last year's best
Prince of Wales's Stakes, Group 1, 1m2f, ITV
The only Group 1 contest of the day brings the long-awaited return of Love, last seen in August winning the Yorkshire Oaks when rounding out an unbeaten three-year-old season. O'Brien has been waiting for the right ground on which to unleash the star filly, and if she comes back on the same form it will be hard to see anyone able to beat her.
SPOTLIGHT TIP: LOVE
Put her rivals to the sword last season in the 1,000 Guineas, Oaks and Yorkshire Oaks
Hollie Doyle rides: can she add another big-priced winner to her tally?
In a competitive handicap Magical Morning looks set to improve for John and Thady Gosden on his first run this year having been gelded. On his last start in September he finished second behind Matthew Flinders, who was disappointing last time for Ed Walker but has the potential to bounce back.
SPOTLIGHT TIP: MATTHEW FLINDERS
Best to forgive latest run; still unexposed over 1m; remains the type to land a big prize
The Punt Daily: Tom Collins' free horse racing tips on day two
Windsor Castle Stakes, Listed, 5f, ITV
Ruthin, a star of Wesley Ward's Ascot squad, is the eyecatcher in this Listed contest. The two-year-old posted an impressive six-length win in a maiden at Keeneland, and although she ran green she displayed plenty of ability. With Frankie Dettori on board, she is clearly the pick of the Ward pair, with the yard also saddling Golden Bell.
SPOTLIGHT TIP: RUTHIN
Trounced her rivals at Keeneland (5.5f) and she's a fascinating contender for Wesley Ward
Four horses who will relish the quick ground on day two at Royal Ascot
Kensington Palace Stakes, 1m, ITV4
Ryan Moore and Sir Michael Stoute will be looking to pick up a hat-trick of wins with Lights On, whose last success came over course and distance in May. Also seeking a treble is So I Told You, who is dropping in distance for the first time since joining Joseph O'Brien. They will be facing a challenge from the Gosden-trained filly Mostly, who won easily on her seasonal debut but was not suited by the track in the Nottinghamshire Oaks.
SPOTLIGHT TIP: MOSTLY
Impressed on seasonal debut at Kempton and had excuses last time; remains of interest
