It is not only next year’s Gold Cup winner we may see in action this afternoon. A potential rival to Galopin Des Champs or Fact To File in 2027, or thereabouts, could just make a Grade 1 breakthrough 20 minutes after the Savills Chase and 400 miles away at Newbury.

The Coral Challow Novices’ Hurdle has a history of showcasing the cream of young British talent, never more so than when superstar Denman signalled he was something special by bolting up in 2006. Native River, Politologue and Bravemansgame are other high-class chasers to take part in this on their way to the top.
