It's a very modern King George, and here is why you should go against the story

The shifting power dynamic between Britain and Ireland means that the Ladbrokes King George VI Chase and the Savills Chase have swapped roles. 

With any luck, we will see the two favourites for the Gold Cup clash at Leopardstown. That used to be the King George's job. The upside is that this race now draws in plenty who think they have a shot. It makes for a more competitive betting race than it used to be in the Kauto Star days.

In the first 12 King Georges of this century, there were five odds-on favourites and only two instances when the favourite returned bigger than 6-4. In the last 12 years, there have been no odds-on favourites and nine favourites who returned bigger than 6-4.
