HK Fourteen goes for four-timer, while Darragh O'Keeffe attempts to hit the target on his first ride at Plumpton
Punting pointers from each of today's race meetings . . .
Exeter: Jack Sprat bids to enhance Jamie Snowden's track record
Jamie Snowden has a solid strike-rate of 25 per cent with his runners at the Devon track in the last five seasons, but that figure doubles when he targets handicap chases.
The Lambourn-based trainer has three winners from six runners in that race type in the same timeframe and looks to enhance that with Jack Sprat in the 3m handicap chase (3.30).
The six-year-old won twice over hurdles, producing a career best when upped to a staying trip for the first time at Huntingdon in March, and made a good fist of it on his chasing debut at Wetherby last month.
He looked like getting detached at one stage, but rallied well to go down by little more than four lengths suggesting this longer trip would help, while he will be suited by the sounder surface here too.
Leicester: Stuart Edmunds seeks fourth win in juvenile contest
Stuart Edmunds has saddled three runners in the last five runnings of the 1m7½f fillies' juvenile maiden hurdle (1.10), and has been successful with each one.
Hillcrest Fire (2017), Megan (2020) and Majestic Jameela (2023) have all scored for the trainer in this contest and Edmunds bids to maintain his perfect record in the race with Edna E Mode.
The three-year-old showed promise in novice and maiden company on the Flat for Harry Charlton, and has been given a break since running below her best in a handicap on her stable debut in July.
Edmunds said: "We like having a juvenile filly in the yard to work with but she ran very disappointingly last time on her stable debut.
"I think the ground might have been too quick that day, but she's schooled well since. It'll definitely be an interesting race as none of the runners have any hurdling experience, but we're hoping she'll go well."
Plumpton: Darragh O'Keeffe makes first course visit
Darragh O'Keeffe travels over from Ireland for his maiden trip to the Sussex venue, where he will have his first ride in Britain on a non Irish-trained horse this season when partnering Matchless for Jennie Candlish in the 2m seller (1.20).
He looks to have a good chance on the six-year-old, who has had a short break following a good second in a 2m4f handicap at Perth in September.
Matchless looks to have been found a good opportunity for his first win since November last year as he is rated 21lb higher than anything else in the field but is in receipt of 6lb from recent winner Kilcummin.
Alan O'Keefe, assistant trainer, said: "He's been running okay so far and this seemed like a good opportunity to get his head in front. He should handle the ground fine and I'd be hoping he's good enough to win this."
Plumpton stat: can Charlie Longsdon maintain perfect course record?
Charlie Longsdon has scored with both of his runners at the course this season. He looks to maintain that 100 per cent record with Sign Again in the 2m4½f novice hurdle (12.50).
Southwell: HK Fourteen goes in search of four-timer
The rapidly improving HK Fourteen goes for his fourth win in 19 days when he lines up in the 6f handicap (8.15) for Tony Carroll.
Not sighted at big prices in three novice contests up to a mile and a quarter, the four-year-old has been on a roll since tackling sprint trips, winning comfortably on turf at Bath last month before two wins in two days at Newcastle this month.
HK Fourteen been raised 6lb for that latest victory but Jack Doughty, who was on board for his first two wins, returns to the saddle to take off a valuable 5lb.
Carroll said: "He's been brilliant recently and I'm delighted with how he is at the moment. The drop back in trip seems to have really helped, but he was a big, backward horse too, so he has just taken some time.
"He's up 6lb in the ratings, but he's still in great form and I'm hopeful he can put up a big run again."
Wolverhampton: Taylor Fisher reverts to Flat after jumps win
Few jockeys compete across both codes, but Taylor Fisher took out a conditional licence this season and has done very well over jumps.
The rider has scored on four of his nine rides in that sphere, with his latest victory coming in a handicap chase at Taunton on Thursday, and he will be looking to continue his good form as he reverts to the Flat for just one ride here.
Fisher gets the leg up on the John and Rhys Flint-trained Lusaka, who he partnered to a seven-length win at Nottingham in August, in the 2m½f handicap (8.00).
The six-year-old wasn't sighted again until disappointing over hurdles at Exeter last month, but he has never won over jumps and may have needed the run anyway, so better can be expected.
Wolverhampton stat: can James Owen muster more profit for punters?
James Owen is operating at a 34 per cent strike-rate (16-47) at Wolverhampton this year, with a £1 stake on each of his runners at the track showing a profit of +40.85. He runs Rizg in the 6f handicap (6.30), and Khangai in the 1m4f handicap (8.30).
