'He goes there with a big shout' - who fancies their chances as talented juveniles clash in the Two Year Old Trophy?

Billboard Star (left) and Francisco's Piece are among the runners in the Two Year Old Trophy

You might expect an end-of-season two-year-old race to throw up some unusual results, yet the cream nearly always seems to rise to the top in the Two Year Old Trophy.

All of the previous ten winners had something to recommend them heading into Redcar's annual feature and Billboard Star (stall seven) will meet plenty of criteria for many punters.

This precocious juvenile is battle-hardened and largely consistent. Take out Billboard Star's Gimcrack struggles and he has served up Racing Post Ratings of 97, 97 and 95 when running reasonably well in the other Group 2s he has contested. That is his level and the weights and measures favour him.

However, it may be asking plenty of Billboard Star to back up so quickly after enduring a hard race on desperate ground at Newbury in the Mill Reef.

Uncle Don (13) is perhaps short enough in the early betting given the question marks surrounding him over the surface. His pedigree hardly screams soft ground.

From a ratings perspective, Francisco's Piece stands out for Adrian Keatley. He is the only runner with a three-figure RPR on his CV and earned that when conceding lumps of weight to some fair rivals in a Haydock nursery recently, which might well have brought him forward after a two-month break. This terrain is perfect and stall two is a nice berth with the far side expected to be the chosen route.

It seems likely something stepping up in class will raise their game and Northern TickerĀ (three) might fit the bill in that regard. The way he saw out Carlisle's stiff 6f to defy a penalty last time was impressive and he looks the type to develop further.

What they say

Michael Dods, trainer ofĀ Northern TickerĀ andĀ Educating Rita
Northern Ticker is in good form and he's an improving horse, he'll be decent next year and we're looking forward to running him. Educating Rita got hampered at Ayr last time and I hope she'll put up a good performance.

Tom Palin, racing manager to Middleham Park Racing, owners ofĀ Uncle DonĀ andĀ An Outlawā€™s Grace
Uncle Don had been off the track a while before Ayr and he'll come on fitness-wise. He was a big eyecatcher in how he came home and a return to six furlongs shouldn't be an issue for him. I just wish he was drawn a bit lower but it looks a good opportunity for him. An Outlaw's Grace hasn't quite kicked on as much as we would have hoped. He ran okay at Doncaster and he's more than capable of picking up prize-money.

Adrian Keatley, trainer ofĀ Francisco's Piece
He was coming off a break when he ran a massive race under a big weight at Haydock. I'm very happy with him and we're looking forward to it ā€“ he's got a good draw and the ground has come right.

Adam Ryan, son of and assistant to Kevin Ryan, trainer ofĀ Territorial KnightĀ andĀ American Style
They should run big races. American Style has been consistent all year and got off the mark last time. He has a nice low weight. Things happened a bit quick for Territorial Knight at York and the ease in the ground should help him.

Eve Johnson Houghton, trainer ofĀ Billboard Star
He goes there with a big shout. He's got some smart form and a nice low weight so we're hopeful. It's only two weeks since Newbury but he seems fine and he's not had a hard season.
