Grade 2 Cheltenham winner makes chasing debut at Uttoxeter for Nicky Henderson - punting pointers for Sunday's action
Punting pointers from some of today's race meetings . . .
Exeter: Jupiter back for more
Jane Williams is a regular name on Exeter racecards and has a strong record at the track, with 16 winners – her most for any course in Britain – coming at a 23 per cent strike-rate.
That figure improves to 25 per cent for this season and she sends out a strong hand on Sunday in a bid to claim another winner with six runners.
Chief among her hopefuls is Jupiter Allen, who lines up in the 3m handicap chase (2.50). The five-year-old was a smart course-and-distance winner last month when beating subsequent Cheltenham winner Abuffalosoldier by half a length.
Saint Cyr De Pail is also one to note in the 2m½f handicap hurdle (3.25) as the five-year-old finished seventh behind subsequent winner The Kemble Brewery last month.
The runner-up, third and fifth from that Worcester race have also won in maiden and novice company since, so an opening mark of 100 may underestimate Saint Cyr De Pail’s ability.
Exeter stat: in-form trainer
Ben Clarke scored with four of his last six runners for an impressive strike-rate of 67 per cent before Saturday's racing. He saddles two at the track on Sunday in Game Colours, who seeks to break her maiden in the 2m7f mares' novice hurdle (1.05), and Dr Kananga in the 3m handicap chase (2.50).
Uttoxeter: classy hurdler makes chasing debut for Nicky Henderson
Shanagh Bob is the name of note at Uttoxeter's card on Sunday as he makes his debut over fences in the feature 3m novice handicap chase (1.25).
The six-year-old, owned by Joe and Marie Donnelly, was a classy type over hurdles, winning at Grade 2 level in December before finishing fourth in the Grade 1 Sefton at Aintree.
He ran just three times over hurdles but is built for chasing and will be well suited to this trip.
In his Racing Post stable tour, trainer Nicky Henderson said: “He was an impressive winner of his sole point-to-point, which he followed up when winning his maiden at Plumpton.
“He won a Grade 2 at Cheltenham, giving us all huge dreams, but he was one of the ones who couldn’t go to the festival.
“He’s grown considerably during the summer. He jumps really well and I’d be surprised if he wasn’t near top class in this sphere.”
Uttoxeter stat: newcomer of note
The opening 2m4f maiden hurdle (12.15) has been won twice by Olly Murphy from just three runners (67 per cent strike-rate) and the in-form trainer bids for his third success in five years with rules debutant Roaring Conquest, the ride of Sean Bowen.
