Charles Byrnes bids for a first winner at Hexham - punting pointers for Wednesday's action
Punting pointers from each of today's race meetings . . .
Dundalk: The World's Astage bids to emulate Cesarewitch winner
Cesarewitch winner Alphonse Le Grande won the 1m2½f handicap (4.45) at Dundalk on his only start for Ray Cody before joining Tony Martin in 2022 and The World's Astage could be another progressive stayer in the making to come out of the race.
The Diego Dias-trained four-year-old got off the mark at the 11th attempt at this track and trip a fortnight ago. The daughter of Rajj has been placed on five of her last six starts on the turf but is unexposed on the all-weather, as this will be just her third outing on a synthetic surface.
Ronan Whelan, who steered Alphonse Le Grande to victory from stall ten a couple of years ago, will attempt to repeat the feat from the same draw, although his mount must defy an 8lb hike in the weights.
Ffos Las: Greenways aims to defy penalty
Greenways provided both jockey Ben Poste and trainer Tom Symonds with their second winners of the season at Hereford last Tuesday and the combination bid to follow up at Ffos Las in the 2m4f novice handicap hurdle (2.00).
The five-year-old made the frame in three of his four starts in handicap company for Dominic Ffrench Davis before making a successful stable debut for Symonds from 3lb out of the handicap last week.
The son of Jukebox Jury landed a gamble in good style in Symonds' own silks, having been backed into 3-1 favouritism before scoring by three lengths. She has a 7lb penalty now.
Symonds is not a frequent winner at Ffos Las – his runners are 3-82 – and among the opposition is Lady Harriett, a course-and-distance winner this month. The five-year-old mare also carries a 7lb penalty and will be ridden by James Bowen, deputising for his brother Sean.
Ffos Las stat: Twiston shouts
Two of Nigel Twiston-Davies's four runners at Ffos Las this season have won and the trainer could enhance that 50 per cent strike-rate with Wonder Of The Seas (12.50) and Supasunrise (2.35).
Hexham: Byrnes seeks course breakthrough
Charles Byrnes has not had a winner in Britain since Bumble Bee Bet made a successful debut at Ayr in April 2023 and the Irish trainer bids to end that long dry spell with a couple of runners in Northumberland.
Byrnes has enjoyed multiple Grade 1 victories at the Cheltenham Festival and Aintree's Grand National meeting, most notably with Solwhit, but his last winner in England came in December 2022 courtesy of Grozni's novice hurdle success at Leicester.
The Mass Path will be a third jumps runner of the season in Britain for Byrnes, who has yet to send out a winner at Hexham. His fourth representative at the track bids to get off the mark under rules at the 15th attempt in the 2m4f handicap hurdle (12.35) before Reverend Hubert reverts to chasing in the feature 3m novice contest (1.45).
Hexham stat: raider to watch
John McConnell has enjoyed 11 winners from 24 runners at Hexham and the County Meath-based trainer will be represented at the track for the first time this season. Technology (12.35), Ira Hayes (1.10), No Time To Wait (1.45) and Broken Ice (2.20) could improve McConnell's 46 per cent strike-rate at the Northumberland track.
Kempton: Appleby out to boost brilliant record
Charlie Appleby has unleashed some smart sorts on Kempton's all-weather track in recent years and bids to enhance his strong course record with Blessed Honour in the 1m3f fillies' handicap (8.00).
The Godolphin trainer has a 36 per cent strike-rate at the venue in the last four seasons in handicaps with three-year-olds or older, with five winners from 14 runners. However, he has used Kempton as a springboard with some of his best horses too, none more so than this year's 2,000 Guineas winner Notable Speech.
Blessed Honour is one of two runners on the evening card for Appleby. The daughter of Dubawi won at Nottingham in June but has been seen only once since when disappointing at Newbury.
Appleby is also represented at the meeting by Wild Nature, who attempts to bounce back from a poor showing at Doncaster last month in the mile nursery (5.30).
Warwick: can Murphy enhance his brilliant month?
Olly Murphy is enjoying another month to remember and bids to extend his terrific form at the track this season with the exciting Booster Bob in the 2m novice handicap chase (2.10).
Murphy is operating at a 31 per cent strike-rate in November – having had a red-hot September at 35 per cent – and has been formidable at Warwick this term, with two winners at a strike-rate of 29 per cent.
He saddles five runners on Wednesday's card, subject to a morning inspection, headed by Booster Bob. The six-year-old made a successful chasing debut at Ffos Las last month.
Murphy said: "He made a good start to his chasing career at Ffos Las and I'm delighted that the rain has come. Touch wood, his jumping will stand him in good stead and we're looking forward to running him as we believe he's still handicapped to run very well."
