Can Wolverhampton winner Willem Twee continue James Fanshawe's fine record in competitive conditions race at Kempton?

James Fanshawe has won this conditions race three times from just five runners in the last ten years and looks to have a serious chance of enhancing that record with top-rated Willem Twee.

The five-year-old has achieved a Racing Post Rating of 100-plus on the all-weather seven times from nine starts and produced a career-best of 115 when landing a Racing League handicap at Wolverhampton off top weight on his last start in August.

He was beaten a length and a quarter when third in the Group 3 Chipchase Stakes the time before, which is arguably the standout form in this race, with the winner Montassib landing the Group 1 Sprint Cup at Haydock on his next start and runner-up Kinross scoring in the Group 2 Park Stakes at Doncaster.

Willem Twee is still progressive and could prove up to conceding weight all round, especially as Kinta, who is next best at the weights, is returning from seven months off.

She finished just a neck behind Willem Twee in a Listed contest at Lingfield in November and is 4lb better off here – albeit the winner has improved again since – but she might just need this.

Equilateral is classy on his day, but all of his best form is over shorter trips, while three-time Group winner Go Bears Go has enough to prove on his first all-weather start having been well held this year, so the unexposed Night Raider could prove the biggest danger.

He was thought good enough to run in the 2,000 Guineas, having won two all-weather novices by a combined 14 lengths, and although he came up short that day and in two more turf starts, he could prove a different proposition returned to this sphere.

What they say

James Fanshawe, trainer of Willem Twee
This seems a nice race for him. He's acted round there before, has a good all-weather record and seems in good shape.

David Loughnane, trainer of Go Bears Go
We're coming down in grade to try to sweeten him up. I think back up to six [furlongs] will suit. It's his first run on the all-weather, but he's in a good place at home. If we can get his head in front or get him to run well then it'll be a step in the right direction and we can then make a plan with him.

Mick Appleby, trainer of Juan Les Pins
He's done a fair bit of work now, but I think he's probably just going to need it. He'll come on for the run.
