Can the class act and 'very exciting' Primo Bacio confirm her superiority?

The Conqueror Fillies' Stakes is typically contested by Group 2 horses at best, but this year it has attracted a runner who exceeds that level.

The highest-rated filly to contest the Listed prize in the past decade, Primo Bacio is proven in Group 1 company having finished two lengths behind Mother Earth in the Prix Rothschild as well as being only a length and a half off Snow Lantern in the Falmouth Stakes.

The four-year-old can be marked up for the Newmarket effort as she encountered a troubled passage in a race run in a good time.

Her form nosedived after Deauville, but soft ground is not her cup of tea and possibly prompted the regression.

Primo Bacio avoids a penalty and is undoubtedly the one to beat. However, her final two below-par outings, coupled with the fact she lacks a prep run and surprisingly a near-future Group 1 Lockinge entry, are valid reasons to oppose her.

Three-year-olds benefit from an extra 1lb in weight-for-age this season and the market has latched on to once-raced debut winner Zanbaq, who receives a stone from the older fillies.

Zanbaq's Kempton triumph has worked out exceptionally with the second, fifth and sixth scoring on their next starts, but a debut RPR of 82 leaves her with plenty to find given an RPR of at least 100 has been required to win this in the last decade.

It might instead be worth turning to Almohandesah, who achieved more as a juvenile than her sire Postponed did.

Almohandesah turned in a big career best behind 1,000 Guineas-bound Cachet (103 RPR) on her return at Newmarket this month. She was an easy-to-back 28-1 shot in an up-to-scratch running of the Nell Gwyn that day, but she ran a cracker to be second and is bred to keep improving.

With the likes of Hello You and Perfect News in behind, Almohandesah would not look out of place in the Guineas itself, and she has a fitness edge over her key market rivals here. She can give Cachet a timely form boost before the Guineas on Sunday.

What they say

William Haggas, trainer of Bashkirova
She's a nice filly who's training well and we'd be hopeful she'll run a good race.

Ed Walker, trainer of Primo Bacio
She's a very exciting filly and has no penalty in this. She looks in great nick and is a smart filly over a mile on fast ground, which she didn't get after the Falmouth Stakes last year.

Karl Burke, trainer of Almohandesah
We were delighted with her run in the Nell Gywn. She'd stepped forward from two to three and I think she's stepped up again in her work since then. There aren't many three-year-old-only races for her, so she's got to take on older rivals, but she's a mature filly and is in good form. We're hopeful of a place and I don't think she'll mind the quick ground.
