Can Cheltenham winner return to form now back with Gordon Elliott? Punting pointers for Wednesday's racing

Punting pointers from some of Wednesday's race meetings . . .

Beverley: Midgley double-handed

Paul Midgley has an excellent record in the 5f handicap (4.18) and is double-handed as he bids for a third win in the last five years.

Midgley struck in 2020 with Indian Sounds and again with Elegant Erin two years ago. The seven-year-old is back for more and while he has disappointed in two runs since winning at Newcastle in June, he has a 50 per cent strike-rate at the East Yorkshire track.

The trainer is also represented by Rock Of England, who although yet to win since switching yards this year, has been improving and finished second over course and distance last time.

The race has also attracted last year's winner Mattice, while Glory Hyde and Willolarupi are among the other course-and-distance winners lining up.

Beverley: jockey to follow

A £1 stake on all 27 of Joe Fanning’s rides at Beverley this season would have a yielded a profit of £34.58. French Haven (3.15) made her debut at Glorious Goodwood and is the pick of Fanning's four mounts as he bids to add to his six winners at the track this season.

Kelso: Bowen travels for just one ride

It is understandable that James Bowen is making the journey to Scotland for one ride considering it is for Stuart Crawford.

Crawford has saddled a winner and a third from two runners at Kelso this season with victory for Lily Du Berlais in a £50,000 series final contributing to an overall level-stakes profit of £10.08 at the track.

Bowen has his first ride for Crawford this term on Kinbara Firstdraft, who is 6lb higher than when scoring at Perth in June but receives weight from all seven of his rivals in the feature 2m5f handicap hurdle (5.05). Success on the five-year-old would be Bowen’s eighth winner from 41 rides for the Antrim-based trainer since 2021.

Tramore: Kennedy boost for The Friday Man

The Friday Man has been winless in ten starts since beating Twig by a length and three-quarters in a 2m4½f Cheltenham novice hurdle for Gordon Elliott in April last year.

The runner-up has gone on to win two races, including Uttoxeter's Summer Cup, and finish second in the Ultima, while the winner was pulled up on his last two starts over fences during an unsuccessful spell with trainer Moses McCabe.

The return to Tramore, the scene of his nine-length bumper win in June 2022, could spark a revival for the seven-year-old now he is back in the care of Elliott. Jack Kennedy has made the frame on the five occasions he has partnered the son of Kayf Tara and he could help him make it two from two at the track in the 2m7f beginners' chase (4.10).

Tramore: Buckley in profit

Kieren Buckley has won on two of his three rides at Tramore this season and has a chance of improving his level-stakes profit of €16.75 on Just Jacob (3.35), Mary's Pride (5.50) and Mabel In May (6.50).

Yarmouth: Estrange primed for follow up

Estrange created a huge impression when scoring by five and a half lengths at Goodwood last month and bids to back up that debut success in the EBF Stallions John Musker Fillies' Stakes (3.30).

The 425,000gns yearling purchase had been with John and Thady Gosden before making a successful start for David O’Meara, who has pitched her in against 15 more experienced rivals in this big-field Listed event.

Unlike main market rival Sea Just In Time, who is a 14-1 shot for the British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes, the three-year-old does not have any Group 1 entries but will likely end up towards that company if providing owners Cheveley Park Stud with their fourth victory in this race.

O'Meara also saddles an outside hope Dore Milaje, who was down the field in a York Listed event last time.

He said: "Estrange was very impressive at Goodwood. The ground will be a bit quicker, but I hope it will be fine. She has 15 other runners to contend with and this is a much deeper race. Dora Milaje will appreciate the ground and the trip will be fine too. I hope she can slot in and have a nice trip around."
