Can Joseph O'Brien replicate last year's treble on Dundalk card? - punting pointers for Friday's action
Punting pointers from each of today's race meetings . . .
Dundalk: more O'Brien success on this card?
Joseph O'Brien has enjoyed plenty of success on this card in recent years and looks to have a live chance of repeating his treble from 12 months ago, when he struck in all three maidens.
He saddles five runners, starting with Mveve and All Told in the mile maiden (5.30). The former sets the standard, having been beaten a short head here in October, and could find improvement for the longer trip and being fitted with a tongue-tie, while the latter could build on his debut run.
Denim And Diamonds and Beautiful Affair, O'Brien's two representatives in the mile fillies' maiden (6.00), finished fifth and sixth in a similar event over course and distance last month. The latter, who was sent off favourite, got no luck in running and is sure to improve.
The longer trip and first-time blinkers are both sources of potential improvement for Whisper A Prayer in the closing 1m2½f maiden (7.30).
Lingfield: Boatman back for more
Lingfield has been a happy hunting ground for The Thames Boatman, who has won three of his four starts at the Surrey venue, and he looks to enhance that record when he lines up in the 5f handicap (2.20).
The five-year-old struck on his first three visits to the track, latterly over this distance off a 3lb lower mark in September, but lost his unbeaten course record when sixth behind Kylian in a Class 2 handicap here last month.
That came after an 87-day break, so he was entitled to need it, and he returns to the course, where he has recorded all but one of his top five Racing Post Ratings, in a much weaker event.
Trainer Richard Hughes said: "The faster they go, the better chance he has. They didn't quite go quick enough for him the last day."
Lingfield stat: hot trainer
Nick Littmoden has won with four of his nine runners (44 per cent strike-rate) in three-year-old-plus handicaps at the track in the last five years. He looks to better that record with Monsieur Beaulieu in the 7f handicap (1.45).
Newcastle: marvellous Mulrennan
Paul Mulrennan has started the new year in fine form, with six winners from 19 rides (32 per cent strike-rate), and is the leading rider at Gosforth Park after riding a treble on his last two visits to the track.
In the mile classified stakes (4.10), Mulrennan keeps his partnership with the Stella Barclay-trained Eva Rosie, who didn't get any luck in running when dropped into similar company over course and distance last time, beaten little more than two lengths.
Barclay, who is two from three with her runners in classified company at Newcastle this year, said: "
Mulrennan also takes the ride on the Peter Niven-trained Chantilly Moon in the mile novice (4.45) and Jems Bond, who bids for a sixth course success for Alan Brown in the 7f classified event (5.45).
Newcastle stat: course specialist
Tomorrow Day has won four of his six starts at Gosforth Park but has yet to win in 11 starts away from that venue. He lines up in division one of the 6f handicap (6.45) for amateur jockeys.
