Can Charlie Deutsch strike at Chester on rare Flat rides? Punting pointers for Saturday's action
Punting pointers from some of Saturday's race meetings . . .
Chester: jump jockeys get chance to shine again
Some of Britain's best jump riders have two chances to be successful on the Roodee on Saturday with the Edinburgh Gin Jump Jockeys Challenge Handicap over 1m4½f split into two divisions.
Brian Hughes is among the riders in the the first contest (5.15), teaming up with Donald McCain to partner Sea Legend. Hughes has not had a Flat winner since June 2014 and this is a new racecourse for him.
Charlie Deutsch has rides in both races – Clansman in the first for Liam Bailey and V Power in the second (5.55) for Tom Faulkner.
Faulkner said: "He went alright at the track last time, but just got stuck in a bit of traffic. The ground and trip should be fine and he's got a nice draw, so hopefully he can run a nice race.
"Charlie rides out for us once a week and he's never ridden at Chester before."
The race is the brainchild of Chester's head of gaming Patrick Chesters, who is also general manager at sister track Bangor.
"We knew there was a bit of a gap for jump racing this week and it's given some of the jump jockeys the opportunity to ride round here, which they'll probably never get," he said. "We've had to have the race distance as long as we possibly could, but I still think it'll frighten the living daylights out of them."
The jumps jockeys have already had a taste of the Flat this week, with David Noonan winning Epsom's Jump Jockeys Derby.
Chester: track trainer
Irish trainer Karl Thornton has an eyecatching 44 per cent strike-rate with his runners at the track, as well as a 38 per cent strike-rate in Britain this season. He saddles Shanroe (2.40) and Grey Fable (5.15).
Bath: centurion back for more
Fact Or Fable struck at the track when bringing up a century of career runs last month and the Bath regular is back with a leading chance in the mile handicap (6.35).
The two-time course winner was successful here on fast ground and has finished seventh and third since. Stan Moore has found an easier race this time, as he drops from a 0-60 to a 0-55.
His jockey Millie Wonnacott has made a great start to September, gaining two winners from nine rides at a 22 per cent strike-rate, and with a £1 level stake profit of £17.50.
Among the opposition is Eye Of The Water, who will be making his 15th start at the track. His last win was recorded here in August 2023.
Bath: stable to follow
Daniel and Claire Kubler have an impressive record at Bath this year, with their runners there yielding a £36 profit for a £1 level stake. They have one runner on the card in Amongst The Stars in the 2m1f handicap (3.55).
Lingfield: can Bryan maintain hot spell?
Josh Bryan in enjoying a good time of things and bids to continue his flying form on a horse who has been a key part in that.
Bryan is one of Britain's most in-form jockeys having ridden three winners from six rides before his two mounts at Salisbury on Friday.
One of those came on the Georgina Nicholls-trained Bobacious, who hacked up when winning by five and a half lengths at Windsor this month.
They team up again off top weight in a 1m2f handicap (4.58) at Lingfield and the pair have a terrific record together. In the seven times Bryan has partnered him, Bobacious has only finished outside the top three once.
