The bet365 Cambridgeshire (3.40) favourite Roi De France will line up in Saturday’s feature handicap after John Gosden was satisfied conditions at Newmarket are not too testing for the 8-1 market leader.

On Friday, joint-trainer Thady Gosden had indicated that the son of Sea The Stars would not participate in the £175,000 handicap due to the soft ground.

However, owner Bjorn Nielson said on Saturday morning: "John's walked the track this morning and was amazed by how it's dried up, so Roi De France will take his chance in the Cambridgeshire."

The field for the 1m1f event has been reduced following the withdrawals of Navagio and Silent Film, the intended mounts of Kieran Shoemark and James Doyle respectively.

Navagio and Silent Film are the sixth non-runners in the Cambridgeshire following Penzance, Coeur D'Or, Watcha Matey and Crack Shot, who were all taken out of the race on Friday.

Reserves Ebt’s Guard and Poniros made the cut as a result and the now 31-runner line-up is the second-largest Cambridgeshire field since 2018.

Poniros, who chased home subsequent Group 2 runner-up King’s Gambit in the London Gold Cup at Newbury in May, is a 9-1 chance. The Emmet Mullins-trained ante-post favourite This Songisforyou is now available at 10-1, having already drifted out to 9-1 (from 7) on Friday.

Navagio was officially a non-runner at Newmarket due to the going but is declared at Haydock for the opening mile handicap (1.30), in which topweight Rhoscolyn will not attempt to back up Wednesday's win at Goodwood having not eaten up.

Although both miss out on the Cambridgeshire, Shoemark and Doyle are set to clash on the Rowley Mile in Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes (1.50) aboard Luther and Wimbledon Hawkeye respectively.

Ides Of March is a non-runner in the Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes (3.00) but his trainer Aidan O'Brien is still represented in the Group 1 by odds-on favourite Whistlejacket.

Newmarket going remains soft

The going remains soft at Newmarket after a dry night. There were 27 non-runners on Friday’s card on the Rowley Mile, which began on ground officially described as heavy before being changed to soft after the first race.

Sunny spells are forecast for Newmarket where it is expected to continue to be dry with a maximum temperature of 13C.

There has been a slight change in the going at the Curragh, where conditions have quickened ahead of the Group 2 Montane Developments Beresford Stakes (2.35) and Goffs Million (3.45).

The going had been yielding on the straight course and good to yielding on the round course but clerk of the course Brendan Sheridan said: “The ground has come back a little bit.

“We had a dry 24 hours. The ground now on the straight course is good to yielding, yielding in places and on the round course is good, good to yielding in places.”

The Curragh also race on Sunday with a couple of Group 3 races preceding the Friends Of The Curragh Irish Cesarewitch. On the forecast, Sheridan added: “It’s mainly dry today with sunshine.

“There’s rain moving in tomorrow morning with the possibility of 15mm through tomorrow.”
