Ballyburn's sister makes her debut and James Owen bids to enhance fine Wolverhampton record - punting pointers for Saturday's racing

Punting pointers from some of today's race meetings . . .

Navan: pedigree pointer

Although the Navan Novice Hurdle could unleash a star of the future, the 2m maiden hurdle (12.32) will also be a race to keep an eye on, especially with the regally bred Meetmeinstlouis.

Trained by Mouse Morris, the five-year-old is a full sister to Ballyburn, who is one of jump racing's most exciting prospects after his novice hurdle exploits last season. He most recently made a fine chasing debut at Punchestown.

Meetmeinstlouis is also related to multiple winners Noble Endeavor and Minella Daddy and was bought for Coolmore supremo John Magnier for €62,000 as a foal in November 2019.

She is set to make her debut, in which she will be ridden by 5lb claimer Gavin Brouder. Her trainer is in fine form too, operating at a 29 per cent strike-rate in the last fortnight.

Macdermott could seal a hat-trick in the Listed 2m4½f handicap chase (2.17) and his trainer Willie Mullins is operating at a 25 per cent strike-rate in the last fortnight.

Wolverhampton: profit-maker

James Owen may be impressing with his young hurdlers but he remains a formidable force on the Flat too.

His 33 per cent strike-rate at the track is improved significantly by the link-up with Hector Crouch, with the pair unbeaten in two starts, and the jockey partners Come On John for the first time in the 1m1½f handicap (8.30).

The five-year-old has had just three runs for Owen but has already won at Southwell in October, and runs off a mark of 52 after finishing third last time out.

His most recent effort came over a mile and a half but he is a course-and-distance winner and could enjoy the return to the scene of victory.

Owen said: "He's good and we're looking forward to it. I think he should run a big race as it does look like the ideal spot for him. He's done nothing wrong since joining us, likes the track and is training well, so we're confident."
