As Paris's most glamorous week draws to a close, who will strut their way to everlasting Arc glory at Longchamp?
It has been Fashion Week in Paris but it feels like that might not be too hard an act to follow, given that the highlight appears to have been 56-year-old Daniel Craig swaggering down the catwalk at Loewe in a knitted sweater and cargo pants. Lenny Kravitz, Jeff Goldblum and Willem Dafoe have also been posing moodily for the paparazzi; old blokes are hot right now in the French capital, so it's too bad that Frankie Dettori is in Keeneland.
Yutaka Take will have to carry the flag for veteran jockeys at this Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, which organisers hope will be a simple extension of the glamorous activities taking place in the city. Once more, we are invited to gaze in awe as a collection of handsome beasts strut their stuff in the Bois de Boulogne, to feel thankful for the chance to breathe the same air as these improbably well-made creatures.
A big fish might emerge from the race but for now this doesn't feel like one of those Arcs dominated by the presence of an established star. There's no equine Daniel Craig in this movie.
