Art Power bids for another lucrative Irish raid in Group 3 Renaissance Stakes
Saturday: 4.10 Curragh
William Hill Ireland Renaissance Stakes (Group 3) | 6f | 3yo+ | RTV
A trip to Ireland to take on Group 3 opposition resulted in Art Power's most recent success in July 2020, and connections of the 114-rated sprinter will be hoping the same move works the charm again at the Curragh.
This is a significant drop in class for the Tim Easterby-trained four-year-old after he ran very creditably when beaten under two lengths in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes, Darley July Cup and Betfair Sprint Cup this season.
This looks a good opportunity for the King Power Racing-owned performer, although he faces an unknown quantity in Twilight Spinner, making her first start for Joseph O'Brien after being purchased privately out of David O'Meara's yard.
A three-year-old filly making just her fourth career start, Twilight Spinner is entitled to improve for the run after being absent since an impressive Listed win at Haydock in May, but it will be intriguing to see how she fares.
Measure Of Magic would have solid claims if she is back to the form of her Commonwealth Cup third to Campanelle and Dragon Symbol. However, she hasn't delivered her best over 5f the last twice and connections will surely be eager for her to show more now back to 6f.
This represents a big step up in class for the Joe Murphy-trained Gyldan, but the Ballylinch four-year-old looked a pretty useful operator when scoring on her belated introduction at Tipperary in June.
Power Under Me, representing Gary Carroll and Ger Lyons, brings some solid Group form to the table, particularly his latest second to Gyldan's stablemate Gustavus Weston in the Group 3 Phoenix Sprint Stakes last month.
Previously second to talented miler Order Of Australia in the Minstrel Stakes, his mark of 105 leaves him with 9lb to find with Art Power, who must give the Lyons-trained three-year-old 2lb.
Stormy Girl out to make immediate impact for Twomey
Paddy Twomey is always respected when inheriting horses from other stables and Stormy Girl, previously a Listed winner for Rebecca Menzies, is worth watching on her Irish debut.
Picked up for 310,000gns last December and absent for over a year, it will be interesting to see how the market assesses her chance.
She carries the same colours as the stable's Matron Stakes runner-up Pearls Galore and represents a trainer who continued his excellent season with another winner at Listowel on Thursday.
"We're looking forward to running her and she should appreciate the stiff six furlongs on good ground," said Twomey.
"She broke the track record at Pontefract when winning the Flying Fillies' Stakes in August last year and this looks a suitable race for her."
What they say
Alastair Donald, racing manager to King Power Racing, owners of Art Power
It's a great opportunity for him and he has run some big races in defeat this year. The ground will be fine and he should prove hard to beat. It's his easiest assignment for some time.
Joseph O'Brien, trainer of Twilight Spinner and Speak In Colours
We're looking forward to getting Twilight Spinner started. We like what we've seen from her so far. Speak In Colours hasn't found his form yet this year but hopefully we have him in good shape.
Ken Condon, trainer of Let's
She's got a very good constitution and loves her racing. She'll be a big price but she will like easier ground than she encountered last time. We tried her over longer trips but now she's got her eye in over shorter, I think she'll appreciate this trip.
Johnny Murtagh, trainer of Measure Of Magic
She was just ran off her feet a little over five furlongs the last day. She's up to six furlongs here and back in a Group 3 from a Group 1. On ratings she has a chance and she's in good shape.
