Invincible Army found only one too good at Glorious Goodwood and in the Gimcrack Stakes at York and today he returns to Group 3 company in the Sirenia Stakes.

This race is arguably not as hot as those he has competed in of late and must represent a great chance of landing a first Group victory on his all-weather debut.

Bruce Raymond, racing manager to owner Saeed Manana, believes the James Tate-trained juvenile will take all the beating. He said: "It's his first time on the all-weather but he's had plenty of experience of it at home. He's drawn nicely and this is very much his trip. On his Gimcrack form, they all have him to beat."

Waiting in the wings is Mark Johnston's 98-rated Lake Volta, who has progressed since finishing seventh on debut at Goodwood behind Thechildren'strust, who also runs here.

Charlie Johnston, assistant trainer to Mark Johnston, is hopeful of a return to form after Lake Volta played up last time. He said: "He was disappointing at Ripon last time, but Mum [Deirdre Johnston] was there and she felt he got a bit stewed up and ran his race before he got out there.

"We’ll take some precautions to try to change this in the paddock and hope he can just grow up a bit. Franny knows him well and I hope he can continue his progress."

Archie Watson, trainer of leading hope Corinthia Knight, said: "He is three from three round a bend and on the all-weather. I feel he is more than up to this level. It is probably a tougher Sirenia than most years but he is drawn well and I hope he can give a very good account of himself."

Tom Clover fields his first Group runner in the shape of Declarationoflove. The Newmarket trainer said: "He goes like six furlongs will suit and he’s always worked best at home on the all-weather.

"I realise he’s in at the deep end here but it’s exciting to have our first runner in a Group race and he’s got a chance."

The final of the London Mile Series (3.15) looks a wide-open affair, in which 16 runners go to post for the £60,000 prize, and it could prove to be a great day for Kevin Ryan, who saddles Brilliant Vanguard here along with big-race hopes Brando and Flaming Spear at Haydock.

Brilliant Vanguard will be vying for favouritism and comes into the race in flying form having won comfortably at Ripon the last twice.

Ryan said about the four-year-old: "He’s in great order at home and we couldn’t have been any happier with his runs at Ripon the last twice. We’re very hopeful."

Eve Johnson Houghton's pair of runners, Reaver and Golden Wedding, are likely to be each-way prices but the trainer is hopeful they will run well in what she thinks might not be the strongest of races.

She said: "I didn’t think either of them would get in but it looks a bit weaker than most years. They’ve both got an each-way shout – they’re both course-and-distance winners – and it would be great if they could finish in the money. We’ve put a visor on Reaver as he’s been going further than this."

Chiefofchiefs and Commodity will be fancied in the market and have both won at Kempton before. However, the draw may be a concern, with the pair drawn wide in stalls 13 and 16.
