Amy Murphy bids for Listed success with first Flat runner in Ireland – punting pointers for Monday
Punting pointers from Monday's race meetings . . .
Fairyhouse: first foray for Murphy
Amy Murphy will saddle her first runner on the Flat in Ireland with the unbeaten juvenile Itsatenfromlen, who competes in the Listed Blenheim Stakes (5.45) under Leigh Roche.
The son of Sergei Prokofiev has won both his starts in valuable races at Chantilly, and he has improved for an 89-day break since his last outing.
"He was in at Chantilly on Saturday in the race Archie Watson won and we just thought this was a natural next step rather than a Group race," Murphy said.
"There's not a huge amount of Group races left here and we've given him a bit of time off over the summer. He's a big horse. There are sales on over in Fairyhouse, so we were over there anyway.
"We really like him. He's done nothing but improve since Derby day at Chantilly when he last won. I think he's fine over five or six furlongs, he's very versatile and has got a great brain."
Looking further into the future, she added: "He's owned by my husband [Lemos de Souza] so he's very much for sale and that will dictate where he goes after this. He's won two £25,000 races so he's pretty cool. Hopefully we can keep him in the yard."
Hamilton: combo to note
Kaiya Fraser is operating at a 30 per cent strike-rate in the past fortnight and even notched a 20-1 winner at Kempton on Friday.
He is a young rider to follow and has built up an excellent relationship with Rebecca Menzies, for whom he has ridden five winners from 11 rides.
The pair combine with two horses on this card, with Game Breaker (4.43) in the 6f handicap and Angel Amadea in the confined 6f handicap (5.15).
Game Breaker is particularly interesting as she got off the mark for Menzies under Fraser over this course and distance last time. The three-year-old filly was formerly with Ralph Beckett.
Angel Amadea is 3lb lower than her last winning mark and connections will be hoping a headgear switch – this time to a visor – can generate an improved effort.
Hamilton stat: Trap aiming for another course win
The Tim Easterby-trained Temper Trap runs in the 1m½f apprentice handicap (1.48) and has an eyecatching record at Hamilton. He has recorded five wins, two seconds and a third from 11 starts at the track, including when runner-up last time.
Listowel: Dip bids to maintain ace course record
Drop The Dip bids to extend her perfect course record to 3-3 by winning the mile handicap (2.00) for a second consecutive year.
The Tom Gibney-trained four-year-old is rated 4lb higher than when successful in this race last year.
She has failed to score in six starts in 2024, but caught the eye when a keeping-on eighth at Galway on her penultimate start.
Gavin Ryan has been aboard for all three of her career wins and maintains the partnership.
Recent Tipperary winner Dancing Steve and Killarney second Shoot To Kill look likely dangers, while Rachael Blackmore rides topweight Lilikoi, who is one three mounts for the top jump jockey on the Flat card.
Listowel stat: Action worth a bet
Andrew Kinirons has saddled four winners from nine runners on the Flat at Listowel, operating at a 44 per cent strike-rate. He saddles handicap debutant Man Of Action in the concluding 1m6½f event (5.25).
Sedgefield: course specialist Roxyfet celebrated on season opener
Micky Hammond trained his popular stable stalwart Roxyfet to win nine times at Sedgefield and the Durham track is opening the Roxyfet bar on Monday and has named the 2m1f maiden hurdle (2.30) after the course specialist.
The Middleham trainer saddles two runners in the race. Myboymax is having a second try over hurdles. He finished fifth in this sphere at Catterick in 2021, but has won on the Flat this season and is ridden by Alice Stevens, while Storm Spirit has shown some promise in bumpers and is ridden by 7lb conditional Joshua Thompson.
Hammond said: "It's a couple of really nice touches by Sedgefield. Roxyfet was a marvellous horse and was a standing dish around there on soft or heavy ground in the winter.
"We think Myboymax will make a hurdler, he stays well and has been successful on the Flat this summer. Storm Spirit hasn't cut much ice on the Flat, but ran well in bumpers and has potential for hurdles. She might want a bit further."
Wolverhampton: Faulkner eyeing first win since taking over licence
Tom Faulkner took over from his mother Deborah at their stable near Chepstow last month and has two chances to saddle a first winner on the evening all-weather card.
Robert Havlin partners Baileys Warrior in the 2m½f handicap (7.30). She finished second on her penultimate start at this track and was successful under Havlin at Lingfield in February.
Prince Ali has finished in the first three on ten of his 15 starts at Dunstall Park and runs in division one of the 1m½f handicap (8.00) under yard apprentice Zoe Lewis.
Faulkner said: "Baileys Warrior has had a little break since her last run, but handles this track and Rab gets on well with her. I'm hopeful she can run really well.
"Prince Ali has run some good races under Zoe and is another who likes it around Wolverhampton. My only concern is the draw as he is out in stall ten."
