All you need to know as Exeter falls to the wet weather

Catterick is the sole surviving jumps meeting on Wednesday after Exeter was forced to call off its fixture due to false patches of ground.

An 8am inspection had been called at the course, but this was brought forward after 5mm of rain on Wednesday morning made the track unsafe for racing.

Something seems wrong when deep into the jump season it is the all-weather Flat card at Lingfield of three meetings that has the only class 2 race, in the Betway Handicap with £19,000 on offer.

The jumpers at Catterick, slogging round over often more than double the distance on heavy ground, have to settle for much less reward while their Flat counterparts enjoy their cushioned even surface at Lingfield and Kempton.
