A possible Group 1 filly in waiting and a legendary course specialist - punting pointers for four of Saturday's meetings

Punting pointers from some of today's race meetings . . .

Ayr stat: more delight for Duncan?

Ian Duncan has won with two of his three runners (67 per cent strike-rate) at Ayr this season for a healthy level-stake profit of +34.00. His sole runner is Toombridge in the 2m5½f handicap chase (1.23).

Ayr: Ardera Cross is a course legend

No-one knows the Scottish track better than Ardera Cross. The 13-year-old was sold to William Young jnr out of Dan Skelton's yard for just £1,000 in 2021 and has since gone on to more than pay back his purchase price.

He is a nine-time winner at the track, the latest of which came in heavy ground in January. He is now down to the same mark and is sure to come on for his run here five days ago when beaten more than 42 lengths by Home Free. He should also be more comfortable back down to Class 5 company (1.23).

Down Royal: Found A Fifty won't have it easy

The Grade 2 Bottlegreen Ladies Day 2024 Chase (3.20) sees the return of dual Grade 1-winning novice chaser Found A Fifty as he joins a legion of Cullentra stars to make their seasonal reappearance this weekend at Down Royal.

The seven-year-old improved markedly for a fence, landing three of his six starts and finishing runner-up in the others behind the likes of I Am Maximus, Il Etait Temps and Gaelic Warrior.

His campaign was finished off with a gutsy victory over Master Chewy at Aintree and he is nicely poised to make a winning start to the season over the same course and distance he did 12 months ago.

Elliott said: "He had a great season as a novice and I'd say two and a half miles will be his optimum trip. He's in good form and seems to be settling at home much better."

He will have to repel the challenge of the race-fit Pinkerton, who receives a stone from Elliott's runner and has won his last three starts, including the Galway Plate in July.

Newmarket: Smoken looks a hot filly

It would not be surprising if the winner of the Montrose Stakes (2.50) turned out to be a Group 1 winner next season.

The race is invariably won by a smart filly and this year's running looks red hot, with the top five in the betting all unbeaten.

Ralph Beckett is operating at a 29 per cent strike-rate, having hit 28 and 26 per cent for September and October respectively.

The Arc-winning trainer has also had a particularly strong autumn with his juvenile fillies, so it is no surprise Smoken is the favourite. She turned over the experienced short-priced favourite Archivist on her debut at Nottingham last month.

Southwell: it's Parr for the course

Joseph Parr is operating at a 33 per cent strike-rate in the last fortnight after saddling two winners from six runners.

One of them, Savanna King, came at this track and the trainer returns with the four-timer seeking Kalamunda in the mile handicap (7.25).

The four-year-old made smooth headway from the rear on his most recent start at Kempton, when overcoming some interference to get up late, and is open to more improvement.

Parr also saddles Where Is The Love, a close second three starts ago, in the 1m4f handicap (4.50).

He said: "He's up in grade and the handicap, so he's got his work cut out. He's in good order and the best he's been all year. If he gets a good pace to aim at, he'll run a good race.

"Where Is The Love is unexposed and a bit tricky. She'll be held up for a bit of luck, the track and trip will suit her and if we get the rub of the green she'll be thereabouts."

The trainer has had 99 winners and is hoping Tennessee Gold can propel him to the century at his local track Newmarket on Saturday in the 7f handicap (4.00).

"The horses are in particularly good order at the minute," Parr added. "We need one more for the hundred, so hopefully it'll be Tennessee Gold at Newmarket."
