A Haydock contest jam-packed with last-time-out winners and an all-weather hat-trick seeker - punting pointers for Wednesday's racing
Punting pointers from each of today's race meetings . . .
Dundalk: Crawford's first Flat winner in action
Annaghmccanns provided jumps trainer Stuart Crawford with his first ever winner on the Flat at Dundalk last month and the four-year-old bids to follow up over the same course and distance in the mile handicap (5.30).
The filly finished eighth on her debut at this track and built on that effort to outperform odds of 16-1 to beat the Dermot Weld-trained Aratayvo last time. The third-placed Whisper A Prayer has finished a place better in another maiden since so the form looks okay, and an opening mark of 73 looks manageable, especially with James Ryan taking 3lb off.
Crawford has trained a couple of Grade 2 bumper winners, but took 16 runners to saddle his first Flat winner in Britain and Ireland.
Shaaden looks the main obstacle to preventing Crawford's charge from going back-to-back as Patrick Flynn's representative has won her last two starts at this venue, albeit they were both over 7f.
Haydock: six last-time-out winners
All six runners in Haydock’s feature introductory hurdle (2.15) won their last start, although only Circuit Breaker, Crest Of Fortune and Royal Infantry's victories came in Britain.
Lass De La Blairie and Monaco Rules make their stable debuts for Clive Boultbee-Brooks and Micky Hammond respectively off the back off successes in France. Parisian Fashion has her first start since being bought for €40,000 by Rebecca Menzies after landing a Bartlemy point-to-point.
Royal Infantry’s trainer Dan Skelton said: “He won well on his first start over hurdles, over two miles, and, as a Listed bumper winner last season, we'd like to think he'll be able to climb up the grades.”
Circuit Breaker’s joint-trainer AJ O’Neill said: “He cost plenty from the Flat and it was a funny race with just four runners that he won at Kempton. He jumped well and we always expected him to come on for that run.”
Haydock stat
Cloudy Glen is two wins from three starts at the track and bids to improve on that record in the 3m1½f veterans' handicap chase (2.45).
Kempton: a novice to note
The 7f fillies' novice (4.10) that begins Kempton's card was won by subsequent Glorious Goodwood winner Arisaig last year and there may be another promising type lurking among the 14 runners this time.
Dancing Colours finished a place behind Worthington Lake, who has won since, when finishing fourth on her debut over course and distance in October, and any of Charlie Appleby's runners at this venue should be respected.
As many as 31 of the trainer's 40 representatives at the track this season have made the frame, most notably Notable Speech, who racked up a hat-trick here prior to winning the 2,000 Guineas.
Alfareqa, the first foal of Jessica Harrington's 2019 Group 1 Cheveley Park winner Millisle, cost Shadwell 1.6 million gns as a yearling and is an interesting newcomer for Owen Burrows and Jim Crowley. Burrows also runs Night Of Thunder filly Azaniya, a half-sister to four winners.
Lingfield: Charlotte's hat-trick bid
Charlotte's Web has thrived since reverting to the all-weather and she has the chance of recording her biggest success to date in the Winter Oaks Trial Fillies' Handicap (1.20) at Lingfield.
The three-year-old bids to follow up wins at Wolverhampton and Newcastle in the £45,000 event where she will represent Simon and Ed Crisford, who took this contest with Oh So Grand last year.
Half of the Night Of Thunder filly's 6lb rise for her latest win is counteracted by champion apprentice Sean Dylan Bowen's 3lb claim, while Lokana is the only other last-time-out winner in the 11-runner line-up.
Charlotte's Web was fourth behind subsequent Listed winner Estrange off level weights at Goodwood in August, so she may not have reached her ceiling yet with a mark of 88.
Ludlow: intriguing mares' handicap hurdle
Not Now Nathaniel managed only fourth when sent off the 2-1 favourite last time, but the form of that Bangor novice hurdle was boosted emphatically at the weekend.
The winner, Navajo Indy, followed up in the £55,000 Gerry Feilden at Newbury on Saturday before runner-up Gamesters Guy went one better at Carlisle on Sunday, winning by 16 lengths.
Not Now Nathaniel was giving Gamesters Guy 2lb at Bangor so should have an excellent chance of making a successful handicap debut in Ludlow’s feature race (2.03).
“I shouldn't have run her at Bangor as the ground was nearly heavy down the back,” said the four-year-old’s trainer Donald McCain. “She's not badly handicapped and has enough experience for it now.”
Arclight, who completed a hat-trick over fences when beating the smart Marsh Wren in Listed company last season, reverts to hurdles, while owner Bryan Drew has moved Panic Attack to Dan Skelton, as he did with Madara recently. This will also be her first start for 649 days.
Ludlow stat
Three of Jamie Snowden's four runners at Ludlow this season have won and Only The Bold represents the trainer in the 3m1½f handicap chase (2.35).
