A 19-length bumper winner worth £100,000 and a four-timer attempt at Nottingham – punting pointers for Thursday

Punting pointers from today's race meetings . . .

Carlisle: trainer worth following

Sam England is operating at a strong 28 per cent strike-rate (5-18, +£13.00) in handicap chases at the track this season, and Elleon presents the trainer with another good opportunity.

The nine-year-old, who features in the five-runner 3m2f novice handicap chase (2.55), has enjoyed a consistent run of form by winning two of his last six starts and finishing in the places on three other occasions.

England's overall record at Carlisle reads strong, with nine winners from 45 runners yielding a healthy 20 per cent strike-rate, and she reports her four-time winner, who has finished second on both his previous visits to the track, to be well.

She said: "He's grand, he's in good form. They don't get faster as they get older and there's a few unexposed horses in there, too, but he's back up in trip and likes the track."

Clonmel: Fitzgerald eyes more track success

Jockey Shane Fitzgerald boasts a healthy 50 per cent (3-6, +£14.50) strike-rate at the track this season and partners Marlpark in the opening 2m½f maiden hurdle (1.53).

Trained by County Tipperary-based handler John Ryan, the five-year-old has yet to win in seven starts, but he posted a career-best effort based on Racing Post Ratings on his penultimate run at Kilbeggan and he should appreciate a drop back in trip after falling at Fairyhouse this month.

Fitzgerald has already surpassed last season's haul of ten winners this campaign with 13 victories from 111 rides at a 12 per cent strike-rate. Five of those have come for Ryan, and punters backing the combination on each of the 24 occasions they have teamed up would have been 8.38 points in profit.

Gordon Elliott may provide the main danger in Machismo, fourth in a Fairyhouse bumper last time after being sent off favourite.

Ludlow: £100,000 bumper winner starts for Vaughan

A 19-length bumper winner for Sean Doyle, Kalium fetched a whopping £100,000 when bought by Tim Vaughan, and the exciting prospect makes his hurdles debut for the Welsh trainer.

The son of Gentlewave demolished the opposition from the front when winning at Killarney in May under Patrick Mullins, who described him as "impressive" after the success.

He then appeared in the sales ring at Doncaster just days later and was picked up by the Glamorgan trainer, who will run him in his own silks in the Gary Slater Memorial Novices' Hurdle (2.10) with stable jockey Alan Johns to ride.

Vaughan is only 1-13 with his runners over hurdles at Ludlow in the last five seasons, although more than half of them have finished in the first four in that time.

The race also includes the Jamie Snowden-trained La Marquise, third in the Grade 2 mares' bumper at Aintree in April.

Ludlow stat: course specialist

Henry Daly is 12-42, with a 29 per cent strike-rate, with runners in handicap hurdles at his local track and he runs Pearl Island at Ludlow. The five-year-old is yet to win from eight starts, but warrants respect in the second division of the 3m handicap hurdle (4.30).

Nottingham: October four-timer attempt

The season has completely transformed for World Of Darcy. In September he got an RPR of just 17 when beating one home at Chelmsford, but just a few weeks later he enjoyed a 33-1 shock and in impressive fashion.

The John Ryan-trained three-year-old followed up at Windsor just seven days later by two and three-quarter lengths and then completed a hat-trick at Brighton.

He has had a seven-day rest since his latest success, and Laura Pearson is on board once again in the 6f handicap (3.13).

Ryan said: "He's had a bit of a run of things and seems in good order. It gets tougher each time with the handicapper, but he's got the ground he likes and he'll keep competing. We're running out of time on the grass and he's proven he's a mudlark, so he's got to keep taking his chance while the ground is there for him."

Southwell: in-form stable

James Fanshawe capped an excellent season with Group 1 success for Kind Of Blue on Champions Day last Saturday, and his Asimov is his one runner bidding to continue the good spell.

The three-year-old, who sports the Castle Down Racing silks made famous by Telecaster, responded well to the application of cheekpieces when winning a 6f handicap at Newcastle last month.

He was beaten on his following start at Kempton over a furlong further, but given he was drawn wide and keen, it was a respectable effort to finish fifth of 11, beaten just a length and three-quarters.

He returns to 6f here with regular rider Daniel Muscutt on board for the open handicap (8.00). However, there is a noteworthy difference as the cheekpieces are discarded in favour of a first-time visor, which joins the tongue-tie he has worn on each start since May.

Southwell stat: one to watch

Lambourn trainers Dan and Claire Kubler are 2-7 (29 per cent, £18.00) in three-year-old handicaps at the track this season and they are responsible for Vince Lombardi in the 7f handicap (7.00).

Wolverhampton: Costello out for more Godolphin glory

Dougie Costello has made the most of his opportunities to ride for Godolphin this season, with a 36 per cent strike-rate for Charlie Appleby. Punters backing each ride would have returned a profit of £19.92 to £1 level stakes.

That link-up started only this season and Costello has a strong chance of making it ten winners for the trainer when getting the leg up on Magic Dream in a warm 1m1½f fillies' novice (5.45).

The three-year-old looked like a winner in waiting when beaten only a head in a warm Newbury maiden in April, although she was very disappointing when beaten a long way at Newmarket on Guineas weekend.

She is a half-sister to the very talented Naval Crown, but faces some well-bred opposition in the Midlands, including Al Thariyaat, who is from the same family as Irish 2,000 Guineas victor Awtaad.
