£255,000 purchase makes stable debut for Paul Nicholls in race he won with Stage Star - punting pointers for Tuesday
Punting pointers from each of today's race meetings . . .
Bangor: Potters Charm formline represented
Chancycourt chased home Potters Charm off level weights at Worcester last month and that form was boosted when the winner followed up at Cheltenham last Friday.
Potters Charm is being aimed at the Cheltenham Festival after beating Gordon Elliott’s previously unbeaten £115,000 purchase Minella Sixo by two and a quarter lengths.
That suggests Chancycourt should be of serious interest for his chasing debut here, especially given his mark of 108.
The eight-year-old fell when in contention on his last start in handicap company in May, while he unseated Connor Brace at Worcester before his second at the same track last month, so he will need to brush up on his jumping if he is to beat a full field of 15 rivals in the 3m handicap chase (2.22).
Bangor stat: filly bids to extend unbeaten record at track
Not Now Nathaniel chased home subsequent winner and Cheltenham fourth Letterston Lily last time and could get back to winning ways if extending her unbeaten record at Bangor to two in the 2m½f novice hurdle (1.20).
Catterick: Docklands team combine closer to home
Focus for Harry Eustace and owners O T I Racing has recently been on Australia, where Docklands finished fifth behind Via Sistina in the Cox Plate at Moonee Valley on Saturday, but connections will be represented much closer to home by Lennox in Catterick’s feature 1m4f handicap (1.42).
The three-year-old was placed in three of his four starts in novice and maiden company before unseating Hayley Turner on his handicap debut at last month’s St Leger meeting.
That Doncaster mishap was no fault of the son of Muhaarar, who justified odds-on favouritism in a Southwell maiden 11 days later.
Eustace has yet to saddle a winner in five attempts at this venue, but given Lennox is the sole last-time-out winner in the seven-runner line-up, this could be his best chance of a breakthrough victory at the track, provided his colt handles the extra furlong and switch to turf.
Catterick stat: Spencer out to enhance fine course record
Four of Seb Spencer's eight runners at Catterick this season have won and he has the chance of enhancing his 50 per cent strike-rate at the track's final Flat fixture of the year. The trainer, who has a level-stakes profit of £18.33 at the North Yorkshire venue this term, is represented by Desert Dream (2.12) and Crocodile Power (3.55).
Chepstow: Nicholls unleashes potential stars
Anything Paul Nicholls runs in Chepstow’s opening 2m3½f maiden hurdle is worth keeping a close eye on, as he won the race with subsequent Cheltenham Festival and Paddy Power Gold Cup hero Stage Star in 2021.
Nicholls also landed the first division of the same contest that year with Mr Glass, as well as taking the second division in 2022 with Makin'yourmindup, a winner of four races since including a Grade 2.
The 14-time champion trainer drew a rare blank at the track’s two-day Persian War meeting but could make amends with £255,000 buy Belliano in the first division (1.00).
Quebecois, last seen running in the Champion Bumper, also makes his hurdling debut in the second division (1.30).
Even if either winner is trained outside of Ditcheat, they should be added to your tracker, as last season’s Ultima winner Chianti Classico and Grade 2 scorer Minella Missile also feature on the roll of honour.
Newcastle: can Barnaby land hat-trick in feature handicap?
Barnaby has thrived since switching to the all-weather and being upped to seven furlongs, and he bids to complete a course-and-distance hat-trick at Newcastle.
The son of Soldier’s Call was beaten in his first eight starts on turf before justifying 4-1 favouritism on his first outing on a synthetic surface last month.
The Kevin Ryan-trained three-year-old defied a 5lb rise to score over the same track and trip last Tuesday and is likely to be sent off the market leader for his third start in a row under a 6lb penalty in the feature 7f handicap (6.00).
"He's been thriving the last few weeks and was a comfortable winner of his last two starts," said Ryan's son and assistant Adam. "He's under a penalty, but on the face of his win last time that wouldn't have stopped him. He goes there with a great chance of making it three on the spin."
