O'Brien preparing to unleash two against Pinatubo in Prix Jean Prat
Pinatubo heads a list of 14 for Sunday's Qatar Prix Jean Prat after Wednesday's forfeit stage, while Aidan O'Brien expects two of his three entries to make the trip to Normandy for the €240,000 prize, run over Deauville's straight seven furlongs.
Charlie Appleby announced plans to run Pinatubo in the Jean Prat last week as he attempts to regain the winning thread with last season's all-conquering champion juvenile, following placed efforts at a mile in the 2,000 Guineas and the St James's Palace Stakes.
Arizona chased home Pinatubo in both the National Stakes and the Dewhurst last season and looks likely to be joined by Lope Y Fernandez in Deauville, with Monarch Of Egypt missing out.
O'Brien said: "At the moment we're thinking of running Arizona and Lope Y Fernandez. The ground would need to be good for Arizona to run but, if it is, he will travel along with Lope Y Fernandez."
Arizona may well get his ground, with conditions measured at just good to soft on Wednesday and only drizzle to come on Friday in conjunction with a strong drying wind.
Monarch Of Egypt's Jersey Stakes conqueror Molatham remains among the 14 possibles, while the home defence is headed by Prix Texanita winner Wooded and Kenway, who was fifth in the Poule d'Essai des Poulains before suffering a slipped saddle in the Prix Paul de Moussac at Chantilly last month.
Returning Middle Park winner Earthlight was taken out on Wednesday morning – the Listed Prix Kistena on the same card is his nominated target – as was Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Siskin, who connections have earmarked for the Qipco Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.
