Mohaayed
Third, Cheltenham, Friday

Dan Skelton's County Hurdle winner went down as a big eyecatcher at Prestbury Park on Friday, making significant progress from an unpromising position two out to be beaten a little over six lengths behind the progressive Come On Teddy.

Having just his second try at three miles, following his second behind Unowhatimeanharry at Aintree last month, he appeared to be ridden to get the trip but ultimately found himself with too much work to do in the straight.

He is now 4lb below his last winning mark and looks primed to take advantage, most likely in a big-field handicap – his last two wins have come in field sizes of 24 and 21. The Pertemps Final could be ideal for him. [Marcus Buckland]

Dame Du Soir
Second, Southwell, Sunday

There's no doubt it's been a difficult period for David Bridgwater's , the mare ending last season with a fall and beginning this season with an unseat over fences before another lacklustre non-completion on her return to hurdles.

However, back to her preferred distance of two miles at Southwell here, there were definite signs of life from the seven-year-old, who tends to thrive at this time of year with her last two victories coming in the month of January.

Versatile in terms of ground, she has come down to a good mark and looks worth keeping on your side in the coming month. [Marcus Buckland]

Precision Storm
Second, Wolverhampton, Monday

Mark Loughnane's Precision Storm, a fast-finishing second to Wolverhampton specialist Richard R H B, was a hugely unlucky loser.

A tardy start wasn't too much of a concern given he's usually held up, but the distinct lack of pace was problematic, especially as he was denied room at a crucial stage on the approach to the straight.
By the time he had got rolling the winner had got first run and Precision Storm deserves plenty of credit for getting within a head given the way the race panned out.

Even the inevitable rise from the handicapper shouldn't stop him scoring soon, especially as he's equally effective on Polytrack. Look out for him in a race in which there's plenty of pace on. [Richard Young]

Eyeofthescorpion
Second, Doncaster, Friday

Barrister and licensed trainer Graeme McPherson has a progressive hurdler on his hands in Eyeofthescorpion, who ran his best race to date when dividing two horses who were officially 9lb well in at the weights.

He fared the best of those who came from the back of the field and, as that was only his sixth start in this sphere, he's almost certainly capable of further improvement.

Although he was a touch flattered by his proximity to the thriving winner Bushypark, he's more than capable of winning against the less exposed sorts in this grade.

Given the stamina in his pedigree coupled with the way he ran, the strong suspicion is that the step up to three miles will be firmly in his favour and he's one to keep a close eye on. I rest my case. [Richard Young]
