Over a million feel the Love on ITV as broadcaster posts buoyant viewing figures

Over a million people tuned in to ITV to watch Love's dominant performance in Sunday's Qipco 1,000 Guineas, as the broadcaster revealed another strong set of viewing figures.

Sunday's broadcast was a third consecutive day of live racing being shown on terrestrial TV following British racing's resumption last Monday, and the figures demonstrated heightened interest with other sports yet to resume.

Sunday's show averaged an audience of 796,000 compared to 404,000 in 2019, with a peak of over a million for the 1,000 Guineas, up from 653,000 the previous year.

Audience share was also well up at 8.3 per cent, from 4.6 per cent the year before.

Nearly one and a half million watched Kameko win the 2,000 Guineas on Saturday, while Friday's coverage, which featured the Coronation Cup, drew 500,000 viewers and averaged around 400,000, which was estimated to be double the figures of a typical midweek broadcast on ITV4.

Looking ahead, another bumper weekend of action is in store on ITV4, with 26 races being screened across three days, beginning on Friday evening, when cameras will be trained on the Curragh for the Group 1 Tattersalls Irish 2,000 Guineas. Five races will be broadcast from the track alongside four from Newbury.

On Saturday, action will be split between Newbury and Sandown, while on Sunday there will be a ten-race broadcast, taking in four races apiece at Doncaster and Goodwood, along with two Listed contests from Leopardstown; the Saval Beg and the Noblesse Stakes.
