Why racing can take heart from a vomiting Norwegian and a silver medal for GB

I sometimes get the feeling that racing worries far too much what the rest of the world is thinking about it. Not in the sense that we should ignore what Panorama has to say about abattoirs, but in the sense that we shouldn't fret quite so much about minor hiccups on a day-to-day basis.

When we have a dodgy start in a 0-60 handicap, for example, and all of a sudden there are owners threatening legal action and journalists claiming the sport has become a laughing stock, when in fact hardly anybody was watching and nobody outside the racing loop will ever know it happened.
