When so much around us is changing, thankfully the Cambridgeshire remains a constant
It's one of those races that offers reassurance. To my knowledge it's never been tinkered with to any great extent and has maintained its traditional slot at the end of September or beginning of October. Of course, it's the Cambridgeshire.
In these times of constant change in both racing and life (I'm still getting used to the Cathcart's absence from the Cheltenham Festival), it's comforting to know an impossible-to-solve 35-runner handicap will always be there to greet us at the same time darkness starts to have a say in our lives – the autumn equinox occurred last Sunday.
The Cambridgeshire is a 'welcome to autumn' greeting, and even if you're no fan of that season, it can't have escaped your attention that the racing is excellent at this time of year, with showcase meetings having the room to breathe at the weekend.
