It might have been an international break, but one group of Premier League footballers were in the thick of some top-class action on Saturday.

The blue and white colours of Brighton and Hove Albion were sighted on the hallowed turf of Newmarket's Rowley Mile when Seagulls Eleven contested the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes for 11 of the south-coast club's current and former players.

Going up against racing's Champions League owners Godolphin and Coolmore was always going to be tough and so it proved as the Hugo Palmer-trained juvenile finished fourth of five behind Shadow Of Light.
