Sandown's two-mile chase has always been a personal highlight - and for me you can't top Viking Flagship
The Tingle Creek coincides with Christmas decorations being put up with increased frequency in my area of north-west London (still too early, surely) and near darkness at around 3.30pm. But at least there has always been the Tingle Creek, and let's hope there always will be.
Whatever your thoughts on whether the jumps Pattern needs ripping up (and Julian Muscat, writing this week, gave a compelling reason why it probably should be), jumps fans will surely experience a tingle of delight and expectation as the classy field lines up on Saturday for a race with a roll call of stars to match the Champion Chase.
And, unlike last week's Coral Gold Cup, its title has remained a constant since the race was renamed in 1979 after the top-class chaser from the 1970s who had an excellent record at Sandown.
