When the gates to Prestbury Park are finally flung open to the public for the first time at the Cheltenham Festival since the world felt like it stopped spinning two years ago, fans won’t be the only ones in a hurry.

It was a point I touched on in my first column of the week and I don’t want to labour it but I feel this is going to be a crucial theme for the day, if not the whole week. The jockeys are going to struggle to keep a lid on the enthusiasm, because they will be charged by the energy around them and there is going to be a lot of it.

I think people are going to be even more boisterous than usual so the atmosphere is going to be something else. That’s something we all want to experience again, maybe with the exception of anyone with a quirky or highly-strung horse.
