Strategic thinking: why racing must start planning now to tempt back racegoers
Which racecourse are you most looking forward to visiting when the Covid-19 restrictions are lifted? For jumps enthusiasts, perhaps it's braving the elements on Haldon Hill for a weekday Exeter fixture, or maybe Carlisle for those in the north, or Gowran Park for those in Ireland?
Or perhaps something more high-profile – how about a trip to Cheltenham, or maybe Sandown, Newbury or Fairyhouse? For those more sartorially minded, an outing to Royal Ascot will be high on the agenda, while others will be longing for a day by the seaside at Brighton.
There is a racecourse for everybody, and no doubt there are plenty of racegoers who can't wait to return to their favourite track or are devising plans to chalk up another on the list of the ones they've visited. Hopefully, the pent-up demand will be high, and once restrictions are lifted people will flock back to celebrate a sport they have been so long denied witnessing in the flesh.
