Shane B Kelly: living proof that everybody deserves a second chance
It seems everything Johnny Murtagh touches turns to gold, including his jockeys. Saturday's Ebor-winning trainer has supplied seven different riders with winners this season but it is his relationship with Shane B Kelly that is most interesting.
For those of you who may not be aware, Kelly is the rider who spoke with rare honesty after he failed a drugs test in 2015. He told of how he used to cheat the tests at the races when based in Britain by “getting other people to piss into bottles for me", before finally getting caught when riding in Ireland.
In some sort of inspirational way, getting caught and almost throwing away a career in the saddle has been the making of the man.
