RCA's work on disabled access could open up sport to new fans

Back in June, I highlighted the case of former bookmaker and owner Mo Charge, who had made the difficult decision to all but give up going racing because he had grown exasperated by the poor facilities on offer at many racecourses.

I said then that the sport simply has to do better and so I was encouraged this week to hear that the Racecourse Association is in the process of conducting a survey of all racecourses to make sure they are as accessible as possible to wheelchair-bound racegoers.

Mo's story resonated with many readers and I am sure many were surprised to hear of his troubles with things like disabled toilets and car-parking facilities, as well as the troubles he had been having getting around certain racecourses to watch his horses run.
