Racing must invest in contingency plans for lost valuable meetings

Having been based in the north earlier in my riding career, I know what an important meeting Ayr's Gold Cup festival and so to see all three days lost to waterlogging is devastating.

The William Hill Gold Cup is the most important Flat race in Scotland and for many of the intended runners, plans will have been in place for a long time to get them ready for this day.

Many of these horses will have been travelling a long way to get to Ayr and this loss of time and money will be extremely frustrating for all connections, especially as the indications from Ayr were initially positive regarding both yesterday and today's cards going ahead. It is not just the Gold Cup either, with another 25 runners having been declared for the Silver Cup too.
