There will come a time when British racing faces some great challenge and it will be described as a crisis. However, it will have to be serious indeed to match the one the sport currently faces.

The financial implications for racing of an extended suspension are huge and it is what its leaders will be turning their attention to following this week's announcement the sport would come to a halt in Britain.

Their main task will be to make sure the industry is as intact as possible so racing can resume as quickly as it can once the worst of the coronavirus outbreak is over. Most immediately, the people at most risk from the financial implications of the outbreak are those who freelance, including the vast majority of jockeys.
