On a Saturday when we were all rightly swept up by the magic of Shishkin and Energumene at Ascot, Brian Hughes was busy at Haydock doing what he does best.

A win in Haydock's opener on Minella Drama continued Hughes's march towards the best seasonal tally of his career, and it feels as though there hasn't been enough appreciation for the 2019-20 champion's sublime season.

Having already become the fastest northern-based jockey to reach a century of winners in a season in November, Saturday's strike put Hughes on 139 winners for the campaign.
