Five-day weeks for stable staff: if one trainer can make it work, why can't all?

British racing has no strategy, which is astonishing. It's not simply remarkable that we're still three weeks off the first strategy talks beginning. It's also lamentable that it's taken until this year for the industry to decide a strategy might actually be a good idea.

When the discussions begin on September 19, there will be many things on the table, not least the future size of the fixture list. Different organisations will put forward different perspectives, with one key consideration sure to be whether there are enough horses to justify the number of races already being staged.

One wonders will anyone add to the melting pot the question of whether there are enough people to look after those horses?
