Less shrugging, more action - help is needed for jockeys who suffer life-changing injuries

Jockeys are often described as brave, superhuman or heroic. At other times they are plain daft for willingly deciding to earn a living by riding a 500kg animal around a field, often while jumping solid objects.

And for what? Certainly not the money. 

A jockey can earn celebrity status by bringing joy to owners, trainers and punters simply by crossing a winning line in front. That’s one side of the story, a story only a winner gets to savour. A fall can bring forth the end of that chapter rather swiftly. That's exactly what happened in my story.
