Amid all the sound and fury of world events, I often find myself wondering what people are really thinking. Those people in the thick of things, away from the public utterances. What's going on in their heads?
Like the Labour top brass, in the midst of a supposed public revolt, when they realised that their opposition for the next four years would be either Kemi Badenoch or Robert Jenrick. "How do you spell 'Zippadeedoodah'?" was probably the first thing out of Sir Keir's speech writer's mouth. Nothing more nuanced than that.
Likewise, over at Tattersalls Book 1 Yearling Sale, what was whirring in the minds of the main players as a string of vendors wandered around, dazed, saying how "special" their horse was, after it had just made them a not-very-small fortune in the space of two minutes. It doesn't get much more special than that, after all.
